When I was younger, I loved to create mood and vision boards from magazine clippings for different goals and projects. Whether it was for my bedroom or my vision for the year, it was a fun and easy to way to curate a plan.
Do you find it difficult to imagine furniture or decor pieces in your space? Well, I have the solution for you! You won’t need scissors or glue. Brew yourself some coffee or pour yourself a glass and head to your workspace to create a digital design board. Simply copy and paste photos from google to powerpoint to help envision a new space.
I suggest to start with a few key pieces and design the space around them. For me, I like to begin with one piece I have to have and go from there! In Cora’s big girl room design, it was the whimsical floral rug that inspired the other design choices for the rest of the room. Trouble selecting your key pieces? Start with the two largest design elements. This could be a piece of furniture, a rug, or even a wall treatment. In the process of sourcing items, I swap things out on the mood board until I find what works well with each other and compliments the overall theme.
Enjoy the planning stage, you’ll thank yourself for it! Your design board will help you get an overall feel for a space before jumping the gun on ordering pieces you may end up not liking paired together. Now, don’t get me wrong, I have my own moments of impulsive buying! Still, I highly suggest always making some sort of mood board when designing an entire space.
